磐梯朝日国立公園の吾妻連峰に自生しており、根上りが最大の特徴。雪の重みで樹形がつぶされ、風雨などで根がむき出しになるほど厳しい自然のなか自生している「五葉松」は福島市の吾妻五葉松のみ。「盆栽の手本は吾妻山にあり」と言われる所以。

Grows naturally in the Azuma mountain range in Bandai-Asahi National Park, its most distinctive feature is its upturned roots. Only the Azuma Goyomatsu of Fukushima City grows naturally in such a severe natural environment that its shape is crushed by the weight of snow, and its roots are exposed by wind and rain. This is the reason they say, “Mt. Azuma is the model for bonsai”.
